OK so this is like an "alternative" (read decent) music version of Desert Island Disks.
You are trapped on a small coral atol after some terrible yet unexplained maritime disaster. All that is washed up with you is your stereo, a working portable generator and your box of CDs.
But, DISASTER, they're waterlogged and salt encrusted and fucked up. Only five work. Which do you chose (albums or singles) to best cope with the terrible isolation? Which? Answer me!
Mine:
The Smiths - Louder Than Bombs. Lots of songs so you don't get bored.
Beth Orton - Trailer Park. Cos you can chill as the tropical sun rises and sets.
The Pixies - Doolittle - In case I need to rock out a bit.
Belle & Sebastien - If Your Feeling Sinister - Just because I want to wallow in self pity a bit.
The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks - For when it all gets to much and I need to kick some coconut trees as ships pass me by on the horizon.

The Beta Band - The Three EP's.
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Nina Simone - Release
Bob Marley and The Wailers at Studio One
and David Bowie (that 2 CD box set) because it's got loads on it, including Heros.
I think it's going to be quite a laid back experience for me. Maybe I could put together some sort of drum kit out of some coconuts and a passing turtle so that I could bash things around when I need some noise.

the clash - london calling (because every single song on there is amazing to sing along to. and rudie can't fail is so darn catchy)
ramones - brain drain (because i love the ramones and this is like the album which is halfway between new and old ramones..sort of)
pretty girls make graves - the new romance (so i can sing along and dance around the fire to chemical, chemical)
polysics - polysics or die!!! (because skull fucking is fun)
a cd which conveniently has two cds burned onto it: descendents - everything sucks (because the descendents are legendary) and hole - celebrity skin (because hole are legendary)

WILSON!!!Right on a desert island I would have: SFA - Guerilla - The calypso bits can get me in the mood. Fugazi - Repeater - Even on a desert island I have to stay anti corporate! The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour - Help me rant against the evil's of the world on my island !!! - Louden Up Now - I can have a one man tropical disco, how good's that ;D Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island Burn - For when I realise I'm stuck here for good so I can scream along.

Wilco - 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' (to sing along to)
Neil Young - 'Decade' (obviously)
Godspeed You Black Emperor! - 'Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven' (plenty of music to be getting on with)
Lightning Bolt - 'Wonderful Rainbow' (for those angry, violent outbursts which are inevitable)
Pink Floyd - 'Dark Side of the Moon' (to track my slow descent into human-company-deprivation insanity)

Erm.. ok.. I really am cheating since it I haven’t actually got round to making it up as yet. But, obviously I would have it all burned and ready to go before this dangerous voyage. I really should get round to doing this. I always end up listening to their albums back to back but programming out nearly every track written by Raymond – apart from Escher, which I have a wee soft spot for…<br>My comp will be the perfect combination of every Gerry Love track, early Norman stuff and one poor wee lonely McGinley.

-My bootleg version of 'Smile' assembled by this nice bloke online
-The Soft Bulletin by the Flaming Lips
-Millions Now Living Will Never Die by Tortoise
-Dusk at Cubist Castle by the Olivia Tremor Control
-Songbook by the Super Furry Animals (provising it also comes with The Undefeated on there)
Perhaps not the greatest albums but they'd keep my spirits up on some bizarre island before Ricardo Montalban turns up with his midget cohort.

Grr, Cadd has broken this game - although it is flawed, admittedly. How can you retroactively choose which ones were damaged? It makes no sense, I tells ya.
Anyway,
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation. obviously. Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted Don Caballero - 2 Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime Explosions in the Sky - The Earth...
But it's more of a snapshot than a definitive list.

You think the fact you got washed up with just your stereo a generator and some seedees makes sense? It makes no less sense than a radio show where people no one's ever heard of go on and tell you what tunes they'd spin if stranded on some sandy strand (Hey, a tongue twister!). Me, I'd be lashing together a raft from the bloated and fish-nibbled corpses of my fellow passengers. While playing Beth Orton..... I think I need help.
