For me...
Chumbawamba - Uneasy Listening (it's a compilation, because I simply can't choose between all of their albums. And it doesn't contain bloody Tubthumping but does contain the Alabama 3 collaboration, so it's near enough perfect)
The Sights - Got What We Want (Superb, organ-driven Detroit stomping music, with Beach Boys harmonies and bittersweet melodies. Summers day music)
Dexys Midnight Runners - Too-Rye-Aye (for my own desert disco)
Blur - Parklife (it's to relieve homesickness, innit? Cos I iz British, innit)
Blueprint for Electronic Dance, mixed by Jacques Lu Cont (purely because it's got some fuckin awesome tunes on it, and it would go well with the hallucinations from smoking too much coconut tree bark)

Igor Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring (for those insane, alienated moments) John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (for hoping God will save me) Brian Wilson - Smile (for escape fantasies) Jean Sibelius - Symphony no. 2 in D major (for sunny, happy days) Beck - Odelay (...because even remote islands need crazy party soundtracks)

Patrick Wolf - Lycanthropy (I still listen to it almost every day a year after getting it.) Bjork - Vespertine (so perfect) Miles Davis - Bitches Brew (i mean... fucking... YES) The Bureau De Change - The Future of Boy Bands (the most rockingest of all the rock and the most punkingest of all the punk and just a total hardcore bastard of an album) Tom Waits - Nighthawks At The Diner (never ever get bored of this) Gah I need Enon - High Society too. Can't I just wash it and get the salt off?

Life is hard. You can hum the tunes you've lost but slowly their memory will fade as the years pass, along with the faces of your freinds and family. Your beard will grow long and your clothes fall apart. Rescuers will find you toothless and smelly in a grass skirt. The only words they can get out of you... "one of these days soon : very soon".

Am I abnormal for having a relatively high music turnover rate, i.e. not really having that many all time favourite CDs I want to go back to for all eternity? I just find very few albums ever retain that excitement you get on the first few listens. I'd almost rather take no albums than just five - I'd get sick of them. What if I kept my MP3 player in a waterproof pouch of some kind?
