Hello to everyone here. I have just joined your forum. A friend of mine told me it is a good place to talk about music, much better then Drowned In Sound. Is that true?

Hi epicurus, and welcome.
I think the whole DiS is crap thing has been blown out of all proportion. Like everything in life, there are a few morons who will try to destroy your faith in humanity (wrightylew, ralphcore), but they're a good bunch in general. Having said that, I do post far more here than at DiS these days...

Ello. Which DiSer is that? I recognise the email. Er, Brainforum is no better than DiS, it's quieter and a bit more... civilised? Although we live in fear of an invasion from the barbarian hordes ... WHATWASTHATNOISE? ... oh, nothing.

Rather than tell us the cool bands you like tell us the unusual or uncool bands you like.

My troll radar is a-quivering...... Reveal your true identity or tell us who your friend is! Oh, does that sort of thing happen? How would you define a troll? I hope I won't fall into that category.

Rather than tell us the cool bands you like tell us the unusual or uncool bands you like. That puts me under pressure. Is uncool the new cool? I recieved a CD in the post today, from the USA. Death Sentence Panda.

Epicurus is one of the major philosophers in the Hellenistic period, the three centuries following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE (and of Aristotle in 322 BCE). Epicurus developed an unsparingly materialistic metaphysics, empiricist epistemology, and hedonistic ethics. Epicurus taught that the basic constituents of the world are atoms, uncuttable bits of matter, flying through empty space, and he tried to explain all natural phenomena in atomic terms. Epicurus rejected the existence of Platonic forms and an immaterial soul, and he said that the gods have no influence on our lives. Epicurus also thought skepticism was untenable, and that we could gain knowledge of the world relying upon the senses. He taught that the point of all one's actions was to attain pleasure (conceived of as tranquility) for oneself, and that this could be done by limiting one's desires and by banishing the fear of the gods and of death. Epicurus' gospel of freedom from fear proved to be quite popular, and communities of Epicureans flourished for centuries after his death. He / She should be alright, is it John D in disguise maybe?!

Thanks for the welcomes. And thanks for the Epicurus preçis. I liked the guy because of his many semi-caustic aphorisms.
Is this forum called the Brain forum as a message to the participants; that is, are we supposed to keep the conversation at an intellectually-high level?
