I wasn't allowed to watch the Dark Crystal at the cinema because my mum thought it would be too scary(I think I was 4 at the time). By God she was right!

Did anyone ever see a stop-motion animated thing called The Ship That Could Fly? It was about some over-protective King who said the only person who could marry his daughter would be one who built a ship that could fly. This lowly peasant boy loved the princess, and somehow did manage to build the ship.
I loved that when I was little.

Have you seen the trailer for it? it's on apple.com/trailers -looks good, sort of like how Van Helsing should have been
...with a mix of 3 Amigos in there as well.

Dark Crystal! aw man, i heart that film. I haven't watched it in years, i may need to go look it out now. My film geekery mostly consists of Anime and trashy gore-fests. Preferably both at the same time (Ichi the Killer, yus!)

Is that an Anime version of Ichi? Or have I missed the point?

Is that an Anime version of Ichi? Or have I missed the point? nope, you're so close to the point it's stabbed you in the eye It's about 10 times more violent than the original version, and therefore 10 times better.

Did you know that in America they changed the title from "Northern Light" to "The Golden Compass".
I'm not sure what to think about the upcoming films that are in the pipe-line. On one hand I heard that all the religious bits are gonna be taken out* and replaced with the more vage sounding The Authority -which sounds like the worst idea ever, and on the other hand they've chosen an interesting Director (can't remember who know, but I still wish it could have been Sam Mendes as it was meant to be initially), and Pullman is having some kind of input on the script.
* I'm not sure how true this is. Hollywood can't be that scared of upsetting the Church/Religious-right if it's willing to make a film of The Da Vinci Code..

I don't like it as much, even though it fits in better with the other two titles. If they do remove all the religious bits the whole film will be entirely pointless as that is what the books are primarily about. "The Authority" is how the angels refer to the being they know as God though, i'm sure. They're making a film of the Da Vinci Code? ugh. how depressing, i really didn't like that book. It was vaguely entertaining, but so shallow.

Yeh they started filming in Lincoln Cathedral the other week, this Nun's having a protest whilst all the locals turn up to gawp at Tom Hanks. Channel4 News asked one gawper "havn't you got anything better to do with your time?" which really did make me chuckle, as 4News often does.
