Hi John, i'm basically just testing my way through the forum to make sure everything works and i know how to do stuff.
a question though; the brainlove site has a lot of art related stuff (reviews, etc.), but there doesn't seem to be a specific art section on the forum. Is it just for music chat?
I liked the Mike Nelson review, I always thought the Robert Smithson piece it was based on was great. That piece was about piling stuff ontop of the shed until it began to collapse. With the Mike Nelson thing, I wonder if gallery health and safety made it so that there was no way it could collapse. Completely changes it obviously. It becomes not a reprise of the original, or copy or whatever, but a SIMULATION of a copy of the 'original'. very interesting. What does it MEAN then? Arthur Danto says some interesting stuff about this kind of perceptual indiscernability and how it's more what was the intentionality of the artist that's the important thing than what it looks like... but if it doesn't look like the 'original' then the whole thing falls apart... meaning-wise.
see? not scared to sound wanky am I?

Your observation is right: there should be an art forum. I will make one. Although I'm not sure that the demand exists. Art people seem less... chatty. On forums, at least. Not sure why.

Not sure why. yeah, tell me about it, we could just point people towards the tba one here, which hasn't really got off the ground, but might if some nice people like the ones on here start going to it. Maybe we could do some kind of mutual link swop on the front page or something (I think that's possible)

A very soothing blend of colours when you link to it.
