I just got the funniest promo to review yesterday. I just can't work out whether to give it one or five out of five. Its a 'political' 'hardcore' band called Rise Against. A couple of my friends from school actually love them, but i hadn't had the pleasure until now. Boy this album sucks so hard you could probably clean the whole house with it.
I simply must regale you all with some choice lyrical samples. I was pissing myself reading the lyric booklet yesterday afternoon:
State of the Union Address Reads war torn country still a mess The words: power death and distorted truth Are read between the lines of the red, white and blue
I just love the way they try really hard to make everything rhyme, but don't quite manage it. This might be my favourite bit:
When we build these dreams on sand How they all slip through our hands This might be our only chance
I mean come on! They have a major label deal. Can anybody else find me any lyrics this bad?

Most lyrics are a pile of shit. Very little of it means anything. Because most singers just make any old crap that rhymes innit. I have heard some dreadful lyrics lately in Bloc Pumpy and stuff like that.
"Girl I'm on fire"? PUR-lease. Could it be any more clichéd? At least Franz Ferdinand's fire is out of control and gonna burn this city.

Ha! Reminds me of Green Day's attempts at "political".
The first time I heard that "American Idiot" song I wanted to die. The worst bit was that the music press lapped it up, even the quality end. When I pointed out to a guy on DiS that, musically, it was the same old three-chord shit, he responded with: "It's totally different. Some of the tracks use a piano".

I love the lyrics to Clark Gable by the Postal Service. It's really quite touching to think that someone thinks the same as me about wanting life to imitate film. If only it were that easy... "Clark Gable" I was waiting for a cross-town train in the london underground When it struck me that I've been waiting since birth to find A love that would look and sound like a movie so I changed My plans and rented a camera and a van and then I called you "I need you to pretend that we are in love again" and you agreed to I want so badly to believe that "there is truth, that love is real" And I want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd I greased the lens and framed the shot using a friend as my stand-in The script it called for rain but it was clear that day so we faked it The marker snapped and I yelled "quiet on the set" And then called "action!" And I kissed you in a style that clark gable would have admired (I thought it classic) I want so badly to believe that "there is truth, that love is real" And I want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd I know you're wise beyond your years, but do you ever get the fear That your perfect verse is just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by?
