Without wishing to sound like a broken record, all this Waits talk has made me go back and revisit Real Gone. Have you guys heard it? JESUS. Percussion that sounds like someone slapping a wooden plank against a wall, or alternatively like clinking voovoo bones, guitar that sounds like it was recorded in the exact centre of the world, belly-of-a-whale production, candelit, crazy, fucking earthquake vocals, beat-poet beatboxing... YES.
