Shit, I'm not here for 2 or 3 days and there are too many threads to read. Can anyone summarise?! (not really).
But as Destiny's Child might say, agressively enough to cause you to spill your tea a bit - "Question!"
I have twice seen this video for a song I rather like, but both times have missed who its by and I wondered if there are any light-shedders among you...
Post rock! I forgot to say, it definitely falls under the post-rock banner.
Its quite a long song, that goes through a number of soft, then louder, then quite rocking, then back to soft again phases. I think there's a male vocalist, though I might be imagining that bit. The video is animated and includes a shot like in an old style first person spaceship computer game, with a screen and sight, and also lots of exploding showers of light on a dark background, and most memorably, kind of irridescent writhing octopuses.
This is really bugging me, so if anyone could tell me who it is I'd be grateful.

Didnt the Darkness have both a spaceship and some kind of octopus in one of their videos?

OK, definitely neither of them!!! Its on the late night show on MTV2. I forgot to say above. Its post rock. So noooothing like either. When I say animated, its not cartoony like the Gorillaz, more kind of detailed.
