The new David Cronenberg film. I saw it last night and was wondering if anyone else had seen it and what they thought.
Basic plot outline: - An average family is thrust into the spotlight after the father commits a seemingly self-defense murder at his diner.
What it was really about:
Existence as the ultimate pathological state, about us as creatures with only a sketchy idea of who we are, nervous of testing our physical and mental limits.
(Those aren't my words, but sums up for me what it was about).
Hmmmm....it was definately uncomfortable viewing. And I liked the fact that the characters behaviour was not always predictable. Not sure whether I'd recommend it...even though I really liked alot of it.
Actually I would.
Good to see Cronenberg films featuring in the mainstream I think.

I really want to see this and your mini-synopsis/review has made me want to see it more, thank you Fellalady. If I get to see it soon, I will report back with my own mini-review.

Some people are talking this up as an Oscar hopeful... surely it's just too dark for the Academy!?
Hopefully seeing this at the weekend...

Me and Coastal saw it on Saturday night at the GFT.
Both enjoyed it but felt it seriously let itself down in the last quarter. It features stereotype caricature characters at that point which make it lose its shine a bit.
Still an ok film but where is the Oscar meant to be awarded ?

I’m really glad I went to see it. I thought it was, in the main, really well acted. It could have been so much better though. I was completely absorbed until the end section, where it just lost me completely and I was back sitting in a cinema, merely watching a film.

My flatmate saw it earlier today and just told me it was the worst film ever. I'm not sure I trust her judgement now. Especially since seeing 'the League of Gentlemen: Apocalypse' the other day made me redefine my definition of the word disappointing.

This is inevitable since we are one and the same person.

I saw this film tonight and really ..well not 'enjoyed' it, but it was interesting -I'm Glad I saw it. I liked how it went really visceral in the violent bits.
It's interesting to compare it with The Road To Perdition. Both films are based on graphic novels which comprised 2 thirds of a series, all about the nature of violence and it's effects on the perpitrators.
There were annoying people sat behind me, who chitter-chattered all the way through the film. If you don't like it, bloody leave!
