They really did. The remake of the Ladykillers was unnecessary, and I haven't seen Intolerable Cruelty, but once upon a time, the announcement of a new Coen Brothers film got me all hot and bothered.
Sooooo... which is their best film? And yes, I AM aware I have relegated Hudsucker Proxy and The Man Who Wasn't There to the 'other' category. So there!

Oops, forgot to vote in my own poll. Schoolboy error. I go for Millers Crossing, the dialogue, the plot, Albert Finney! The names, the wood, etc etc...

I'll stick one down for the Big Lebowski.
I haven't actually watched all those films there though...

Seen most of those and "Fargo" is the best. Maybe I only say that because I get precious about good scripts... that's one of the best screenplays ever in my humble opinion.
"Blood Simple" also rules though. And Roger Deakins is one of the best cinematographers Britain has ever produced.

Tough...
I have gone for The Big Lebowski. Nearly went for Fargo and would have liked to also have chosen Blood Simple which you've made me want to watch again and The Man Who Wasn't There.
Intolerable Cruelty wasn't that bad. Kinda better than most romantic comedies but bad for the Coen brothers.

Intolerable Cruelty had it's moments. I think 'Heinz, the Baron Krauz Von Espy' is possibly the best name the Coens have ever dreamt up.
I can't pick a fave. It's between Fargo, Oh Brother, and Man Who Wasn't There.

I truly do love them all. I voted Raising Arizona though as it needs at least one vote and it still makes me weep actual tears of laughter every. single. time. I see it.

"You know - for kids!"
Although I really, really like Barton Fink and think it's a very classy and complex movie, I am wishing I'd voted for The Big Lebowski really because it has this really rare generous good-naturedness. It's a very warm, human movie. Liked it a lot, and can endlessly watch it over. Barton Fink is a once-in-a-while sorta thing.

You're spot on John. The more I think about it, the more I know I should have voted for The Big Lebowski. Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink are probably the best things they've done from a smugly geeky wannabe film buff perspective, but The Big Lebowski makes me cry with laughter.
Twice.
Every time I see it.
The marmet in the bath, and when the dude drops the roach on his crotch whilst driving his car. Pure, unadulturated, lowest common-denominator, movie JOY!

And who can argue with The Dude when he says:
"I really hate the fucking Eagles, man!"
We've all been there.

Raizing Arizona was one of the first films i ever loved, i saw it on TV when i was about 8. But i've still gotta go for O Brother, because it is a work of staggering genius.
We thought you was a TOAD!

I bought Millers Crossing on dvd recently as my video was copied from another vid and is naff. It was the first Coen brothers film I saw, on the tv about 11 years ago. It holds a special place in my heart as I'd not long came out of a coma, was sitting drinking and smoking dope watching it and had a bad spell and thought I was having a brain haemorrage. Happy days.
I'm not voting as it's too hard to pick a fave.
When I lent my folks Oh Brother....my dad was watching it, switched off and rewound and woke my mum up to see it as he thought it was so funny.
