A great big lump of horrible steaming shite.
If this hadn't had the Star Wars brand name on it the critics would have burned it at the stake.

"Dumb entertainment (in a bad way)"
I cant think of a better way to put it.
I really would not see this kind of film if it hadn't had the Star Wars name on.
George Lucas, you dissapoint me, SLAG!

Haven't seen it and don't plan to.
I made my mind up after seeing 3 minutes of Episode 2, which was fucking traumatic. Awful.

Your wrong. It's got some good bits. They make up for the bad. I've said this all before in another thread. It's no worse then Return of the Jedi. In places it's better. I and II were raw shit though.

I vote 'haven't seen it'!
How disappointing. I will though - I've seen all the others at least once at the cinema (in fact, all at least twice except Phantom Menace). I need closure.

Not seen it either. Have no intention of seeing it. Don't really get the fuss around it, can't really be arsed with it. The only reason I struggled through seeing any of the 'original' ones was because I felt a bit left out in conversations sometimes. Overrated toss of the highest order.

Warning - bunch of spoilers, I guess you'd expect that in this thread, but I thought I should mention it.
Voted "Total cynical sell out of the Star Wars legacy" but that goes for I and II too. I'd hoped this one might be better, have a bit of character development as we slowly saw Anakin turn dark. Instead one moment Anakin's a bit pissed off with the Jedi, the next he's killing kids. Very little difference in his expression throughout. Bollocks. Zero chemistry between him and Padme either, and these are the parents of children who are sizzling with desire for each other!
The original three were great because of the characters, the way they interacted, the effects were just a backdrop. There's none of this in the new ones. Chewie was just another fur suit, didn't seem to have any character, and I was shocked when Yoda said it was him.
Oh and someone had obviously said when they'd almost finished, "Hang on, why wasn't Obi Wan able to talk to Qui-Gon Jinn like Luke could to Obi Wan when he died?" so they chucked in some offhand line.
It was just an exercise in joining up the dots to make everything tie in with the others, a real case of them being bored with it all but wanting the money.
... but I still want to watch all six in a row...

I went to see it again and I feel I and others are a bit harsh on it, I would give it a Dumb entertainment (in a good way) now.
Ok the dialogue and the acting is shocking, there is way too much CGI and it might be barstadising something close to us but no one who's seen it cannot deny it isn't fun and enjoyable. I did want to watch a New Hope straight after as well.
Oh well, roll on Sin City tommorow...

ditto what anaM said.
all of the actors were all "oooh look at me I'm in Star Wars", whereas the original team were just (at the time) probably thinking it was just some sci fi crap that people would forget about by the time they had developed a career... therefore much less hammy.
The olnly good thing about this film is the way they joined up the 'retro' imperial stylings of the old republic to the seventies 'retro' of the first trilogy with intermediate designs that showed what episode four 'will' look like.

YEAH, I CAME OUT THINKING IT WAS OK UNTIL I GOT ABOUT AS FAR AS THE EXIT OF THE CINEMA then I thought, "hold on that was predictable rubbish".
I think there's some subliminal stuff in the hectic first fight scene that tells you that it's exactly what you want it to be, but then it wears off.
