Just watched this film on BBC1. It's the third time I've seen it (!) and I still really like it, to the extent that it's one of my favourite films of recent years. I feel this may be the wrong place to make that admission. But it's so well acted / directed, and it has such a great script. Is this unhealthy?
So come on. What's your secret shame / weakness when it comes to films? I can't be the only one...

I watched Meet The Parents a few years ago expecting a run-of-the-mill comedy. But it is HILARIOUS. I was laughing out loud constantly. It's brilliant. I have a penchant for all kinds of shitty films though. Shitty romcoms, shitty sci-fi, shitty courtroom drama - sometimes it's good to just switch off, huh.
Has anyone seen "Meet The Fockers"?

i didn't find meet the parents funny at all. apart from the cat-milking bit. my dad thought it was hilarious. i think it gave him ideas. i've decided i'm going to get married in secret.

Cat milking. Ace! What about the bit where the cat pissed in his mother's ashes? And the bit where he smashed the bride's nose in by accident? And the bit where he set the wedding alter on fire? And the bit where everyone got covered in shit? And the bit with puffing the magic dragon? no? OK.

It is indeed beautifully written. The script is just so charismatic, so well constructed. I guess people automatically assume a lack of sophistication because it's comedy (and slapstick comedy at that), but that screenplay is masterful. Greg's prayer and Jack's poem at the dinner table especially. That's one of the best-written comedy scenes ever produced.
