I brought it on DVD the other week and watched it because I was reminded of it when I watched Dead Man's Shoes (Shane Meadows), plus it was only £2.99.
For those who don't know it is a Sam Peckinpah film made in 1971 which has only recently been passed for video release, having been denied a release in 1999 because of a double rape scene which is often regarded as one of the most disturbing images in cinema history (it does make difficult viewing).
It tells the story of astrophysicist David Sumner (played by Dustin Hoffman) and his wife who move to Cornwall to get away from the violence of America and end up being bullied and held captive in their own home by locals hired to carry out contruction/building work on their property.
Anyway, it is a harsh film but worth seeing and I don't think it is one I'm gonna watch again and again, so if anyone wants it let me know and I'll send it to them free of charge. I'd like to see it go to a good home rather than collect dust on my shelf.

Aye....tis a good film. The rape scene is pretty nasty though & it's very violent towards the end. Kind of reminded me a bit of the Wicker Man insofar as it's set in a small, semi cut off community in Cornwall & madness finally descends. I felt a bit sorry for the paedophile bloke being set up like that.

Kind of, in a similar way as Taxi Driver is.
Want it? If I can't give it away it'll end up being an inappropriate birthday present for someone.

the rape scene is completely unnecessary and almost spolis the film, but it is otherwise fucking great.
