The new Jarmusch film. Watched it last night with my friend Matt Lloyd (a brilliant grafitti artist, painter, jazz appreciator, DJ, post-millenial renaissance man etc) and we both thought it was instantly one of the best films we've ever seen... It's made up of short scenes played out over checkboard coffee tables in coffee shops across America. Jack & Meg White talking about Tesla coils, Roberto Benigni and Steven Wright having crossed wires, Tom Waits and Iggy Pop doing awkward role reversals... It was so CLEVER the way it messed with the expectations you might have of what people are gonna be like (they mainly play 'alternative versions' of themselves). All in beautiful grainy black and white.

Ahhh…. went to see that at the end of last year at Glasgow ever wonderful GFT. Really enjoyed it too. Really, really, laugh-out-loud funny in places, but gentle and understated in others. Good film.

Another of my favourite films of all time. There's something about it, if you just let go of the narrative and fall into the gentle pace of the journey... it's so silly in places, so serious in others, touching on different themes, and all that fantastic black and white, and the music, it's just... Really Special. Jim Jarmusch is the man.

i have a huge urge to see Bill Murray discuss coffee and fags with the Wu Tang Clan, so I NEED to see Coffee & Cigarettes.
Ghost Dog kicked fucking arse too.

Coffee & Cigarettes is great. I saw it on one of my solo cinema outings and this thread has inspired me to watch it again.
It is so well observed, Jim Jarmusch has such a good understanding of people. It's like they are all playing themselves but not, as if they have all been stripped down and then reconstructed again. Tom and Iggy checking to see if their songs were on the dukebox was just brilliant.
So what was your favourite conversation?
I think mine might have been Meg and Jack or Tom and Iggy, or the Steve Coogan one, but also Bill Murray. Kate Blanchett was ace too, and I loved the two old guys (but didn't know who they were) pretending their coffee was champagne. Ahhhh....so good.
