A friend of mine used to review films. One ended: "Next week the pop art facism of Starship Troopers, for which, more revulsion".

One of the best ways to show how ridiculous something is is to exalt it in a really overblown way, unfortunately people often miss the satire/irony/whatever
People slammed fight club for being fascistic, completely missing the point that the whole thing was the product of a totally whacked out dude with a split personality who then shot himself in the face.
Fighting people and blowing things up may seem exciting and fun, but it's quite stupid actually was one message from the film... oh shit, i forgot for a moment it's not real so it doesn't actually matter. Forget it.
move along. move along.

Oh yea. I thought it was quite satirical in its own sledgehammer kind of way. Didn't say I agreed with the dude, just made me laugh is all...

Yeah. Your mate missed the point entirely I reckon. The "civilisation" in Starship Troopers is not meant to be at all idealistic or attractive is it. All the characters are horrible. It's a great film.

I thought Starship Troopers was cleverer than people gave it credit for. It's like a recruitment video for some future-fascistic-society.
AND in one bit, flying aliens slice people's heads off!

Sci Fi fans should probably have a look at this week's Onion as well.

Trash sci fi can be great sometimes. I really like how in starship troopers the society is so corrupt etc especially a lot of the adverts and stuff at the start when they're joining up. Havent seen riddick yet, although i might download it in a bit...
Going back to blade runner. I've never seen it with the voice over, i've only ever seen the directors cut without it, and i really enjoyed it. I've heard that the voice over is really cheesy and ruins the film for some people. Is this true?

I like it. It's even more noir with the voiceover.

But it's less 'noir' in that the ending is a bit happier.

I found The Chronicles of Riddick almost unwatchable. Sorry John.

Don't be sorry: It's shit. I know it is. But I liked it partly for that exact reason. That was kinda the point.
