I have to send 12 examples of my work paintings, photos etc. for review to someone by email. What is the best way to do this? Ideal file size, resolution needed (they are just going to be reviewed, possibly printed but probably not). My friend suggested that I make a pdf? Programmes I have available to use inc. photoshop and illustrator.
Advice gratefully appreciated.

you could consider making a photobucket account/galley so they'll be hosted online. that way the attachment wont fail or be too big or whatever.
other choice is just do them as jpeg's and send them from/to a gmail account.
i don't know owt about pdf nor none of that there shite.

I'm not sure about PDFs. You could save them as decent sized 300dpi JPGs in photoshop, then zip them together and send as one compressed folder.

You could ask them what the minimum pixel dimensions would be that they would need and the jpeg compression setting they would accept, to give you the smallest file size for emailing that would still give a decent print quality. I would normally save at the maximum setting when converting to jpeg, but have been asked to save them at around 4 or 5 before emailing – though this is for a newspaper, whose print quality obviously isn’t as good as a gallery catalogue. It does give you a substantially smaller file size though, with remarkably little difference in the image quality. Or you could upload the high res ones to your flickr account, send them low res versions with a link to the high res ones if they need them.

Hello,
Thank you for your advice. I ended up putting a portfolio together with a pdf maker - Acrobat Professional, which worked out OK. The images would not be the greatest quality printed out I don't think, but seem fine for this task.
There is a whole world of illegal software downloading outhere I didn't even know existed.
