Funeral.
Absolutely beautiful.
Sooooo good.
BUT.
Doesn't anyone else think that track three totally breaks the flow? Does anyone else think Crown Of Love is a bit cringey and sentimental?
I love it, I really do, but it's just not quite perfect.
Still.

I used to think that about "Crown of Love", but I've grown to really like it.
Sort of agree on track 3, but I think track 5 is guiltier of that to be honest.
Maybe it's their total lack of subtlety that does it. "Funeral" is a wonderful album but just occasionally it falters: they seem to want to turn everything (even the "quieter" moments) into a really melodramatic "emotional statement". Which is fine for most of the time. I just think that might hold them back a bit in future.
</picking holes>
So yeah, anyway. One of the best records of recent years when all's said and done.

If they knocked out track 3 completely... Ditched Crown of Love maybe... Track 5 I can get on with, it kinda eases out of the first three neighbourhoods...
Maybe I'll reshuffle it and have my own perfect version of Funeral.

Ah I like Une Anee Sans Lumiere, it was brilliant live, and it's a nice little stop-gap between Laika and Power Out.

Does it mean "a year without lights"?

You're not going to like this but I don't think In The Backseat is a good closer. It should be. The lyrics are very moving and all that, it does thematically round things off nicely but... Wrong voice. It's just the wrong person to be singing it. Ruins it for me. Great shame. Rest of the album is lobing though, obviously.

Does it mean "a year without lights"? Not sure, something without lights definately. I thought 'street' for some reason, but 'year' makes more sense now i think.

Une means one Anee means year Sans means without Lumiere means light
S'true dat. And I wouldn't change the album, in any way. I think it's perfect. Per-FECT. And if you don't agree, I'm taking my ball home again. I'm feeling huffy today.

I am listening to it on repeat today, at full volume. My god, it's fucking brilliant, every bit. His voice on Tracks 1 and 2 give me an adrenaline rush every time. It's just so... so..... so much.
I shouldn't whine about the bits and pieces and the tracklist really.
It's like a fucking monument or something.
I will stop moaning now, but continue flicking past track three. try it, going from the end of 2 straight into 4, it picks up perfectly.
*sigh*

I sometimes listen to just the Neighbourhoods, it is great.
But John, does the disco-freak that is the end of Crown Of Love not fill your heart with joy? Does it not fill you feet with magic dancing powder?
Your name is the only word THE ONLY WORD THAT I CAN SAY!!!
Dance!

I like Track 3. I agree about 'In the Backseat' - its the only song that really doesn't do anything for me. Anyone else going to see them on Monday?

You people suck now!
Une Annee Sans Lumiere and In The Backseat are possibly the best songs on the album!
Neighborhood #4 is sucky though.
Everything else is great.

I think neighbourhoods 1-4 are amazing, and everything from after crown of love is too. I just don't think it flows quite as well as it could have. But there you go, personal thing innit.
