...or rather the DiS forum.
Does anybody else think it's taken a turn for the worse in the past couple of weeks? It seems like every thread is plagued with malcontented teenagers intent on destroying all intelligent conversation. Every debate has become about whether something is "overrated" or "not shit". There's just no passion anymore.
*sigh*

I agree. I used to really enjoy reading the threads on DiS but now it's a bit shit. As long as all the best people gravitate to Brainforum, I'm happy.

It has really gone downhill hasn't it. I'm posting more out of habit than anything at the minute, but interest is definitely waning.. you just can't have a conversation with that lot. You'll invariably end up disagreeing with them on something, then the knives'll come out... although the last one that started having a go was an idiotic 25 year old not a teenager. Hm.

Yeah, I agree. During last year literally thousands of people signed up, which was kind of cool at first - obviously you folks and others made the place much more entertaining - but things seem to have been in decline a little recently. Everything has to be "cool" or "shit", nowehre in between. Being "mainstream" or "popular" is a heinous crime. I can't believe people with so few useful things to say actually come on a forum like that in the first place

<rant>What is it with people using text message spelling on the message boards? I mean, with a full keyboard in front of you it's not like it saves any time, and there's no need to save space as there may be on a text message.</rant> I read the Melvyn Bragg book 'The Adventure of English' recently in which he suggests that a new text message dialect is springing up in the same way that American English, Australian English, gullah, pidgin, etc, sprang up in their day. How scary is that? Txt spk cld sn b a nu (valid, recognised) langwg al of its own.

I will not give up DIS. We must rally and keep it great as it should be.

Of course not, DiS is a great resource and an admirable project etc. But you have to admit, the packs of younger posters are spamming the place up a lot. I haven't heard anyone say "fucking dance music is rubbish" since I was in school. There's no point arguing with someone like that because they just haven't got a clue, and will often interpret anything you say as an attack and just get personal straight away. You know the type - idiots. And they're multiplying.

I was gonna start a thread about spectacular teen-text-chav speak.
I got one that read something like -
"wot r u a dingle??? u r wierd i am 14 u ccok u r sso INDIE coxon breth"
it starts being like a kind of language jigsaw puzzle. you can only guess their thought process. like little aliens that should all be on trisha or brat camp or something.

yep, i agree on the DiS forum. it has gone down.that's why i signed on here. i used to like the witty banter, but there's very little atm. i got annoyed wen someone posted "anyone heard the news that steve lamacq has just died?". ok, so maybe some people see the humour or watever, but i didn't.
oh man- chav language... hmm, i kinda get what you;re saying there, john. but coxon- breath?! how mean!
