I still have all my old match magazines at home. So do I And sticker albums as well, even the half completed ones. I'm a real horder, you never know when the stuff might be handy. I did chuck away some 5 year old NME's recently though.

I have decided to keep one ot two things from each and chuck the rest. The ex-ex-shoebox is going out except one or two pics. The arts mags are going out except ones that I am in. etc.

I have a Christmas NME stored away from every year since 1997 (excepting last year's). I've recycled all my others, but I just couldn't let go of those. They remind me of a time when NME was actually an integral part of my musical life. I don't know whether to be nostalgic or ashamed...

You should never throw anything away. You're throwing away your identity, gradually chiselling away at yourself until you're a burnt out shadow of the person you once were. Other unworthy people find the stuff and assume part of you. They steal your pride.

The last time I moved house was one of the best days of my life. FINALLY 8 years of misery had come to an end. I'll never forget sitting in the car listening to Smashing Pumpkins "Today" as the familiar shitty streets rolled by and I never had to walk down them again.

No it was intentional - I was so happy to be leaving the place I recorded a whole variety of tunes...don't remember them except for that one.

It's a hard thing to do but a good clearout is beneficial to your life in my opinion. I've just moved back to England, leaving a wife and a nice apartment and returning to a small room in my parents house with a depressive sister and a shitbag brother. I've gone for the clearout option as it's all part of the masterplan to get my wife over here in September when she's studying at uni. I've got seven years worth of NME sitting in the loft (1994 to 2002 when I stopped buying it), christ knows what I'll do with them but they can't go yet. I'm musing over selling my X-Men comics and Doctor Who books, the Star Wars figures are going to be sacrificed when the new flick comes out and interest is higher, I've flogged most of my Transformers on Ebay, making my guitar collection smaller...
It's only through clearing things out that you realise how worthless so much of your stuff is in terms of real emotional value. I miss an old amp I had but it's not like really losing something. I guess in my case it's a bit different because losing an item doesn't matter to me so much when I'm missing my missus like mad. I'm going to burn my vinyl onto DVD and then sell the discs, there must be some stuff worth selling, the odd few early records etc...
That tape message story is utterly, utterly heartbreaking.

I miss an old 70s Ibanez overdrive pedal I had. Still never heard anything like it. Lent it to a friend who said it was blagged. Recurring theme at this point in my life was friends losing my possesions and never making good on the loss. Also had a friend who borrowed some pedals other people had left with me when I was really drunk then denied taking them, thinking I was too drunk to remember and only bringing them back when I wouldn't give up.
ps, the tape message is quite an emotion stirrer.

i hardly throw anything away. im totally gutted about that tape message. i think i'd die if i heard something like that. ive still got everything from every ex-girlfiend ive had since i was 5!!!! ive kept all my teddies, loads of toys, all cds, books, scraps and clippings. ive just had to make a new shoebox recently...... im never going to throw that one out. anything i havent got in my room at our house (with monpot) ive kept at home at my parents. i get it from my parents... theyre horders to the max!
my advice - take everything individualy, look at it. if it produces a memory, happy or sad, keep it.

That's so sad that tape story, eleven years too late....just clouds. Very moving.
I'm an awful hoarder, because I like statues and ornaments it all builds up, I've only recently thrown out a collection of old magazines and I regret alot throwing out some stuff.

I think I win the hoarder awards. When we were sorting out my room my mam shrieked "Oh TOM!" in a slightly disgusted manner. I asked what the problem was, and she gave me the 2 teeth the dentist removed about 7 years ago.
....They're in my pocket now

A friend of mine came back drunk one night, puked into a plastic bag full of t-shirts, tied it up, threw it somewhere and forgot about it.
Three years later he moved house and what did he find.....

I've got a totally evil wisdom tooth I had removed, huge roots. I keep it with a bullet my mate engraved my name on with a skull and crossbones and some hair from my late dog. It's part of my mojo and why I'm so powerful. Have never been stopped at customs going through with a live bullet. I horde serious shit, bills from 3 houses ago, A4 envelopes stuffed with receipts for a tin of beans, etc. Before my last move my mum came down and threw out my collection of empty yoghurt tubs without asking. Little did she know I had another collection of them at my ex-girlfriends house Re snot collectors. Frank Zappas Let's Make The Water Turn Black is about two brothers he knew who collected snot on their windows and bottles of urine with little strange creatures swimming in them. Stuff like that is totally disgusting. After I came out my coma I collected some debris from my extensive collection of wounds and smoked it to increase my powers and give me the power of invisibility.
