Who really grates for you?
My vote goes to Nico - now there's a woman who enjoys her testosterone. I bet she looked like a Slavic hammer thrower.

I don't mind Matt Bellamy actually (local hero!)
I heard Joanna Newsom recently, that made me want to hurt something.

You're joking, right? Nico was stunning.
I can't stand the guy outta Mars Volta you know. He sounds like he's really uptight and trying to sound angsty all the time when really he just sounds like he needs a poo. It's fake. It's affected. It isn't real. It's just a glorified emo-ish mannerism and as such is totally overplayed. "Waaa-waaa-waaa!" yeah, yeah mate fuck off.
Joanna Newsom - love and hate her kiddy-kiddy voice at the same time.
Any of the "pop idol" cunts trying to sounds meaningful and committed by doing badly practised vibrato. They just sound silly, like they are playing at being a diva. Which is basically true.
Rod Stewart. Clear your throat, eh Rod? (you cunt)
Elton John. Bellowing cunt.
Kaiser cunt. What a limp-wristed little shit.
Bloc cunt. What are you flailing around like that for? Stop it, go home and come back when you have a tune.
Emo cunts. WAA WAAA WAAAA crying teenage emotionally retarded shrieking mummy's boy nonces.
etc

Bit of a cunt theme there, something wind you up?
In my view Cedric Bixler is a good vocalist, maybe more with At the Drive In stuff.
The bloke from Bloc Party I think is OK as well.
I do like watching those Pop Idol people put way too much effort into singing, it's really funny. Music is supposed to come naturally you bunch of cunts!

Actually, I kinda regret nominating Nico, I posted that just after listening to All Tomorrow's Parties - she's not that bad on the rest of the album. I partially retract my first post.
What really gets to me is vocal acrobatics to disguise a really limited range - the dude from Glassjaw, Britney Spears (fucking weak), Matt Bellamy. *Shudder*. Can't stand Britney.

ANYONE who ever uses vibrato. Most people who can actually 'sing'. Overrated cabaret crooners like Frank Sinatra.
Above all though, Kelly Jones from St*******ics. The most horrible screech ever committed to tape, like a box of nine inch nails scraping down an industrial sized electric blackboard.
I like the guy from Glassjaw's voice, actually, what's wrong with not having a decent range? No to the voice fascists.

like a box of nine inch nails scraping down an industrial sized electric blackboard. This sounds like a compliment to me.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with not being able to sing.

Yeah, you're right on Kelly Jones. Nails down a blackboard is the right phrase.
Christina Aguilera does my head in, as well. So affected and emotionless. Subtlety and expression should be paramount for any singer. Listen to someone truly great, and who really could sing - like Carl Wilson, for example - and you'll know. It is totally beyond me how someone as wooden and bludgeoningly un-subtle as Christina Aguilera ever managed to forge herself a career.
