Brilliantly stylized, some great performances (Mickey Rourke, Frodo) some shit performances (that guy who played King Arthur and Chancer, Benicio Del Toro), some hilarious parts (electric chair, yellow bastard) some unintentionally hilarious dialogue ("the rain was coming down hard... I just had to do some killin'" type stuff)...
All in all: glad I went, but not quite the cult clkassic it could have been, but still memorable and noteworthy. Very noir. But I preferred the over-the-topness of Sky Captain I think as far as CGI movies go.

I really liked it as well. It was good to see Elijah Wood playing something different and it certainly kept me entertained for the whole time. I'll repeat my only gripe of the lack of development and knowledge of the the charecters but that is a failing of the source material itself. Some people have said that it's style over substance but we all like some style sometimes.

I wouldn't say it's a fault. More a characteristic inherent in the style.

yeah noir is known for its lack of character development. it creates mystery in its characters and leaves the audience not knowing who to trust.
i loved sin city. best thing out for ages. im going to see it again. i cant wait for it to come out on DVD. its one of those films i wanna learn every line of. ITS GREAT!
i thought the del torro was good. was overplayed, but that was the point i felt. he was more of a comedy character. and clive owen was good aswell. the actress who played the waitress i thought was the worst, but even she had the charm of a noirish femme fettale.
Marv was just brill. perfect. yes.

One of the (many) things I wanna do when I actually have "mon-ney" is somehow get giant prints made up of pages from Sin City, and them frame them, and hang em on a wall.
I only mention this as I still havn't seen the film. I was going to go see it with Doug, but I had a quick pint before....

Went to see it yesterday and enjoyed it. Girlfriend didn't and for a valid reason. Mickey Rourkes Marvin was the most entertaining character.

I thought it was Fabdabdabulous. Especially the bits with Clive Owen and Mickey Rourke. I agree. I thought all three of the male leads were spot on.

Sorry to spoil the 100% recommendation record… but I have to say I hated it.
I thought it was well acted on the whole. Visually it was fantastic.
The problem was the content – I obviously wouldn’t like the source material. It has to be the most misogynistic piece of cinema I’ve seen in a long time. Plenty of women characters, but all were “victims” and there purely for the men’s pleasure – either for sex or violence. Kept thinking that there would be one that would actual get to keep her clothes on and not strut about provocatively… or be cut up… but no. Made for very uncomfortable viewing and I actually found it a bit disturbing. Got to the point that I couldn’t wait for it to end.

Visually stunning, but some APPALING dialogue ;D
"you're a fool......a damn fool"
'style over substance' definitely, but not a bad thing in my book

I also thought the cliched dialogue and sexism was deliberate...
ultimately it was a noir pastiche and so it just exaggerated film noir to the point of no return.

DangerousDoug, I exalt thee. That's the point of the film, but I couldn't be arsed to articulate it. What it does, it does almost perfectly. You wouldn't read a comic book then complain that it wasn't as good as a Jane Austen novel.

Hmmm… I’m sure if it had been homophobic or racist you all wouldn’t be quite so enthusiastic …even if that was the “point”.
