Alright you MAGGOTS, listen up!
Your mission is to go and watch films by this director. In particluar Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and Old Boy.
The latter is trying to squeeze out Carlito's Way as my favourite film...Carlito's Way is putting up a good fight, but I don't hold up much hope.
Seriously, Old Boy is the best film.Ever.

My housemate's got Old Boy on DVD, not watched it yet. My brother said "it was good, but I wish I hadn't watched it" or something, which makes me want to watch it.

Monpot, watch it!
It is a very dark film...my mate at work warned me several times before wacthing it.. something along the lines of "be careful, ok? This is fucked up"
I don't wish I'd never watched it though....it is too fecking good for that.

Two great movies about vengeance, very similar and very different at the same time. Sympathy... has an incredibly dark social critism but you can have empathy for the two 'heroes'. Old boy shows how low someone can go and how far hate can make you go. And his final is horrible, in particular if you are a father. Great movies that i don't think i will ever want to see again !

i've been meaning to see old boy for ages, thanks for the reminder. a korean film you need to watch is "Friend" - it's like a Korean Once Upon A Time In America, and quite significantly for a gangster film it actually made my shed a tear. too short though, not enough character development in a couple of cases, but i'm just being picky and it's a fantastic movie.

I'm dying to watch a good film. I barely ever watch films, I always seem too busy. An I resent paying 7 quid for the cinema.

I get on the bus and go all the way to Wood Green shopping village for the cinema, £3.50 and in North London too!
£3.50!
even with a bus pass and popcorn it's cheaper than the end of my street.

Nah it's not just students, it's Cheapy Tuesday in the UGC.
I watched Enemy At The Gate, had it's moments (Ron Perlman -woo!), but all in all it were unmitigates arse. The 'love-triangle' didn't work, and it was totally unnecessary. I can imagine some suit seeing the script sans love-story and going "But Jude Law's in it! Women could be watching!". The ending also stunk of an audience-friendly re-edit. Joseph Fines tells head office that Jude Law isn't a committed communist and all this, and then nothing comes of it. I thought he'd be killed, tragically, after discovering that Rachael Weisz was still alive.
