Ach, cmon you haters! Alien is a great movie in a cliched old-school haunted house kinda way (old house haunted school?)
Good call on the original Vanishing - profoundly disturbed me more than any film with the exception of Eraserhead. Ahh, Eraserhead! The industrial soundtrack that sets your teeth on edge! The images! Marvellous stuff.
Both Night of the Living Dead and Day of the Dead are soupherb.
An underrated gem is Repulsion by Polanski - a cheerful little tale of a schizoid nervous breakdown.

Alien is amazing. I love the sets, and everything about it actually. I have the Alien box set. Thet went downhill sharpish at Alien3 though. And resurrection? yuck. Anyone seen Alien vs. Predator? looks shitty.

Do not, under any circumstances, watch Alien v Predator. It will make you shake with rage. You thought Predator 2 was bad? Well... you were right. But this is much worserer.

Anyone seen Alien vs. Predator? looks shitty. My fave thing about that box set is the word 'Quadrilogy' -which is a totally made up word. It should be 'Tetrology'. I'm such a loser.

I know it ditched a lot of the horror stuff but Aliens is better, maybe I personally like marines running around getting killed Don't watch Aliens versus Predator, just keep the nice image in your head of what could have been. Better that way.

I went with SCL to the HR Giger museum in Switzerland a couple of years ago. If you ever get the chance go, it is brilliant. He'd be very scary to meet in real life, I imagine. I watched Don't Look Now the other day. I had to watch it at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon cause I find it so scary. I did close the curtains though, which was quite brave.

I'm not an "Alien" hater. I just think "Blade Runner" is vastly superior...

what pushed me into hating Alien was that twat Mark Kermode saying it's scary because "it's about male rape." no, it's about aliens, you utter utter knobhead. Beat Takeshi movies are a fucking joy to watch, as he bases all the violence on stand-up - quick and to the point. Which means showing heads explode, obviously. It's not horror, but "Sonatine" has some of the funniest black comedy ever. I urge everyone to see Audition! Now! It provoked vomiting at its premiere.

Balthazar Getty in The Lost Highway is horribly evil.

he ruined The Ring for me by giving away the 'climbing out of the TV bit' in his intro on FilmFour and his voice is so unbearably Islington dinner party that i want to shoot him.
face it, he's a cunt. he's a low rent Will Self with twice the ego.

But he's so cool! And that climbing out of the TV bit was spoilt by everyone, not just him!

Event Horizon, Aliens, Dark water are all really good movies. Have yet to see the Wicked man.
I really like the Exorcist, the Omen, Wolfen, the Howling, Maniac cop and most of the old Hammer classics.

the omen is classic!
something about British accents just works, horror-wise.
and scenes with hangings, always creepy to see a hanging corpse.
